Kishore Kumar - A Comic Genius

On 21st Anniversary of Kishore Kumar, I am not sure if there is much I can say about this legend that already has not been said. However, I would like to dedicate this post to his comic genius as a singer, instead of an actor!

A voice that comes from heart and touches hearts of its listeners, immediately! While Kishore Kumar’s romantic and sad songs are more famous, what I have deeply admired, growing up as a teenager, is his command on songs with mischief. The spontaneity and brilliance in creating those expressions of “shararat” and naughtiness is implausible. Combined with the power of flawless yodeling, Kishore Kumar becomes a force not to reckon with. Listen to his comic renditions! Some of those would make you laugh so hard that you will forget all sorrows and grieves for a moment, while others will make you stand up and dance hysterically:

- Mannoo Bhai Motor Chali Pom Pom Pom
- Rafta Rafta Dekho Aankh Meri Ladi Hai
- Kabhi Khole Na Tijori Ka Taala
- Dekha Na Hye Re
- Thodi Si Jo Pee Lee Hai

Trying to be the same teenager that I was, trying to emulate Kishore Da on his uniquely hilarious expressions, I present to you “Sala Main To Sahab Ban Gaya” – a song picturized on Dilip Kumar in the movie, “Sagina”.

Azam,
You have successfully demonstrated great versatility as an artist. Well done!
Here are a few "farmayish" from me to add some more of Kishore Kumar's songs to your blog, as these capture different moods. I hope that you will consider singing some of these.

-Mere Saapnon Ki Rani Kaab Aayegi Tu
-Ye Jo Mohobaat Hai,Ye unka Hai Kaam
-Mere Samane Waali Khidaki Mein, Aek Chaand Ka Tukda Raheta Hai
-Chingari Koyee Bhadake

I look forward to listening to these on your blog. -Mala

Khan Bhai,

Aapke gane ko taarif milni to jayaz hai....lekin ek sincere sa question hai..How can you sing so professionally with every song sung to its detail....Well, but i think the whole world had this question for Kishore da, Rafi saab, Lataji, Asha ji, Sonu Nigam.....And now I have this for u....I will pray to god that not just me, the whole world should ask u the same question!!!!!!

I mean can't express my feelings for ur song....every word, every expression, every feel on the word, the laughter,...not everyone can do it....atleast i havent seen anyone do it in the bloggin world....Vishal's renditions are very good too and he comes close to you and love his songs too....Lekin aapka to javaab hi nahi hai.....

I have so many emotions coming in me at this moment....but think its better to stop, or ill keep writing the whole day...chat pe baat karunga....

u take care and keep rocking...

Regards,
AJ

Dinesh bhai, while your curiosity is one reward for me, your attention and love are another. Thank you very much!

Bhavana, if you grinned then I succeeded in my attempt :) After listening to these funny songs it is impossible not to laugh. Thanks a bunch for listening!

Deblina, thank you very much! This song is full of expressions and some are tricky. I am glad you liked it.

Paras! You always surprise me with your detailed observations. I also realized those details when I sat down to record this song. And yet, it was all those unusual comic expressions that made me record this song in the first place. Thank you!

Srividya, thank you very much for listening! I am glad you liked it.

NVK Sahab, thank you for your encouragement! Your appreciation means a lot.

Sudhathee, thanks a bunch for your wonderful words! I admire your observations. Yes, this song is mostly about expressions which are nicely summarized by Paras above!

Kashif, it is indeed one funny song by Kishore Kumar. And laughter is the best medicine! Thanks for listening and your encouragement.

Mala, aap ka bohat shukria! Aur aaj kal waqayee farma’ishon ka season hai. I have not forgotten about your request for Pankaj Udhas’s songs and will do my best to fulfill those including these recent ones. Thank you very much for your support!

AJ, your emotions are so extremely obvious right now! Your heart-felt comment is very precious! I really appreciate it. As far as your question is concerned, I am in search for an answer of the same from many other singers. We should share the info if either one of us finds it.
