A recent trip to my family back home, Independence Days of Pakistan & India (14th & 15th of August), Shantha Senadheera’s beautiful banner for the Independence Week at Taranaa, and Deb Roy’s soulful rendition of the same song last year inspired me immensely to sing this emotional song by Pankaj Udhas.
"Pankaj was first noticed as a professional singer in the film Naam (1986 film), in which his song Chitthi Aayee Hai became an instant hit" (source: Wikipedia). While Pankaj Udhas has sung many wonderful ghazals for his private albums, as well as movies, this one stands out for obvious, sentimental reasons!
I thank in advance all those who will be listening to this rendition!

Azam,
I am quite amazed by your versatility of singing all kinds of songs. Very commendable and really liked your own touch in-between this beautiful song.
Nice selection and outstanding singing.

Azam bhai,
Once again a wonderful song selection by you. Aap ke gaaney sun ne ke maze hi kuch aur hai, very well done, even though i am not a big fan of Pankaj Udhas, I liked your rendition of this song.
Azam Ji
What a soulful rendition! Just loved the way you sang “Paighaam” and “Jhoole”. I echo Parasji’s opinion about the last stanza though.
On a different note, was listening to “Ramta Jogi” and thought how grand it would be if you sang “Chayya Chayya”. Would love to listen to the song in your voice someday :)
Azamji,
Very nicely sung. The last part chorus overlap is done brilliantly. I never thought that I would inspire anyone and I am so honored. Thanks!
Keep Singing ... me listening
Shantha
Azam,
You have done a marvelous job at singing "Chitthi Ayee Hai". Pankaj Udhas would be proud of you, if he heard this one sung by you! Your emotions and "surilapan" are unique.
I had the opportunity to listen to this song of Pankaj in a live performance where my parents were chief guests, when he was "up and coming" young star, soon after his success with this very song.
Once again, wonderfully sung by you! I would like to recommend that you please consider singing a few of his ghazals. --Mala
Very well done!
Paras said it correctly: versatility should be your middle name. A voice like that, crisp pronunciation, and feelings...aahhh...kya baat hai. God-gifted talent you are Azam!
"Tune paisa bahot kamaaya, iss paise ne desh chhuraaya"...heart wrenching expressions yaar.
Soulful rendition, Expressions were terrific..One of your best renditions, Azam bhai:)
Paras, thanks so much for your observations. Last stanza has very strong wordings, I agree!
Dinesh bhai, coming from an experienced person like you, it means a lot to me. Thank you very much!

Mala, aap ki satayish sar aankhon pe! I will try my best to sing a couple more Pankaj's ghazals. I have Jagjit on the list too. Thanks for your kind words!
Ajay, thank you very much! Your encouragement means a lot to me!
Asim Da, aap ki khidmat mein salaam ... thanks for listening to this rendition. Your last lines show that you can always read my mind without much effort.

Azam ji,
Guess this is how Rafi would hv sung it ...... :)
Gr88 work .... as always !!!
Keep Singing ......
Regards,

Okay, I am usually used to your singing in the style/voice of Mohammad Rafi or Mukesh. So to hear you do a Pankaj Udhas song, gives the listener a chance to hear 'your' style/voice instead of the artist's. Although I do hear your attempting to mimic the style of Pankaj Udhas' voice, I am glad you are brining your own personality into the rendition. It's almost as if you are giving it a personal signature touch, that let's the listener know it's you.
Very well sung. Thank you for feeding your hungry fans! Keep the sweet sounds coming :)
Mahvash
